Even bacteria are succeptible to viral infection. Shown here in delicate shades of blue are such bacteria-infecting viruses called bacteriophages, also sometimes known simply as a "phages." These boogers attach to specific cell receptors on a bacteria's cell surface and inject their genetic material though the membrane. They also have a striking geometric appearance, which is a peach to paint.
